Bluewater Yoga Studio opened in 1996 for the purpose of offering quality yoga classes in the Red Wing community. It is located upstairs at 323 Main Street in the historic area of downtown.
This is a comprehensive 200+ hour program designed to provide systematic and in-depth study for those seeking to deepen their personal yoga practice, as well as to establish a firm foundation for those who will become Yoga Teachers. The program will present the classical tools and techniques of yoga as taught in the tradition of T.Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar, including postures, breathing practices, meditation, visualization, and Vedic chanting. It will also provide a background on the history and development of Yoga from its origin to the present, as well as an introduction to two of the main texts of yoga: the Yoga Sutra-s of Patanjali, and the Bhagavad Gita.
A key tenet of this program will be to train teachers to see all people as individuals, to respect their individual needs and aspirations, and to learn to adapt Yoga in ways that will best serve specific bodies and needs. It will present Yoga as a practical methodology of applying its various tools as a way to deepen one’s practice, self-exploration, and self-transformation. This program is designed to exceed the standards of the Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level. A graduate of this program will be certified as a Yoga Teacher at the 200 level and will be able to register as such with the Yoga Alliance Registry.
Carolyn Hedin will be the Lead Trainer for the Program. Carolyn began her Yoga training with International Yoga Studies in 1997 where she was introduced to Gary Kraftsow and Viniyoga. From 1998 through 2000, she participated in the Teacher Training Program with Gary Kraftsow and earned her first 500 hours of Teacher Certification as a Yoga Teacher through the American Viniyoga Institute. Carolyn went on to study 11 years with Kausthub Desikachar first in the U.S., Canada, and Europe, and then in India at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai. A great many of these workshops and seminars were also taught by TKV Desikachar. Carolyn has been registered as a Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance since 2002, and is Certified as a Yoga Therapist by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Since 2013 Carolyn has been studying Vedic chanting with Radha Sundararajan and is supported by her in carrying on the transmission of the T. Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar teachings.
